Nine Flowers, 2024

The life cycles of flowers are used as metaphors in this work to depict the contrast between a traditional life cycle and a life cut too short - specifically drawing attention to the young lives that were tragically lost before they had the opportunity to fully blossom. There are approximately nine Australian lives cut too short every single day due to suicide, and 75% of these are men.

This series aims to raise awareness about the impact of suicide on individuals, families, and communities, urging viewers to reflect on the preciousness of life and the importance of interpersonal and mental health support. By intertwining the fragility of flowers with the fragility of human existence, this photographic series seeks to foster empathy, understanding, and important dialogue surrounding this sensitive issue.
